Another fun and busy week down. These students are officially 100 days smarter and had a great time celebrating that. |
I wish you could understand how amazing this really is! This is what some of the students do for their Free Time! She wrote her own page from one of our favorite books. Just so so awesome! Playing a fun sight word game Love the creativity on all the different foot dinosaurs Yay! We did it! Some dinosaurs are called meat eaters. They eat meat. Meat eaters are dangerous. They eat us. Some other dinosaurs eat leaves. :) Zunairah's Outstanding 'O' words | Owen wrote his own version of the Pigeon books we have been reading. Many of the students have been doing this for their free write, and I think it is so incredible. So proud! Dinosaurs are cool and I want to see dinosaurs a lot. I love dinosaurs because they are cool. A lot of dinosaurs are super cool and they are big and small. (haha, I just love this!) Good Team Work Making foot dinosaurs I LOVE how nice they play together and share |
We also learned more about birds, types of birds, and bird characteristics. Students practiced identifying books as fiction vs non-fiction and explaining why. They reviewed the purpose of a table of contents, and made many text-to-text connections between all the different Pigeon books. They wrote wonderful papers about penguins and made an -ick Chick for our word family this week.
In math, we began our Subtraction unit. Students are doing a great job so far. We also practiced adding coin, telling time to the hour and half hour, playing addition Top-it, and making ABBC patterns.

This week we focused on Winter and the story The Jacket I Wear in the Snow. We read lots of Winter books and completed Winter writing. The students enjoyed making text-to-text connections and sequencing stories. They also made many text-to-self connections as they talked about their break and what they like to do in the Winter. This week we focused on fiction vs. non-fiction, and the students did an excellent job understanding the concept and explaining why.
In math, we wrapped up our unit on numbers to 100 and skip counting. Students did a great job on the test; this is probably the hardest test of the year. Students also worked on counting and naming coins, understanding place value, recognizing number words, addition and subtraction number sentences, and counting forward and backward.
