We read a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts about butterflies and their life-cycle. Students enjoyed comparing and contrasting, retelling, sequencing, making text-to-text connections, and making predictions. They learned about a table of contents and a glossary. We made a class KWL chart about what we already Know about butterflies and what we Want to learn about them. I can't wait to fill out the Learn column this week to see everything they have retained. They always amaze me!
In centers students LOVED making butterfly life-cycles out of noodles and completing many fun butterfly projects. Many of them are hanging up in our classroom. So cute!
In math students continued to work on adding coins, measuring, addition, subtraction, and multiplication. They also worked on word problems, and reviewed fractions, tallies, and addition problems with carrying.
So impressed with Alyssa's writing and picture! "I see a butterfly. It is laying eggs. Then they hatch. They are caterpillars. Then it is a cocoon. Then when it comes out, it will be a butterfly." Showing that we are ready for First Grade! So excited to see a butterfly this close | Exploring the wetlands Intrigued by a real live tortoise Checking out the chrysalides, and some brand new butterflies! Up close with the butterflies |
