We had a fabulous 3rd week! The children are already learning SO much! It is absolutely amazing! Thank you to everyone who made it to Parent Orientation Night. We had almost 100% attendance. HUGE thank you for all the Scholastic orders. You helped our class to earn over 5000 points!!! I have already used some of the points for listening centers and fun science books. THANK YOU! The first homework assignments are coming home today and Monday. Please click on the Homework tab above for more information about the assignments. Please check out the pictures below. The students worked so hard this week on their M words, writing with word wall words, their senses books, and learning the Leap Frog alphabet song with letters and sounds. In math, students made AB patterns, graphed colored teddy bear counters, practiced writing numbers and counting, and practiced naming coins and amounts. The students even had their first Math test today! They did FABULOUS! Have a wonderful weekend! REMINDERS! ~send in Highlights forms (even with a NO, please sign and return) THANKS! ~Book Report due Monday ~Tic-Tac-Toe due Friday
I couldn't be happy to be back in school with the students. As excited as I was to return, I think the kids were even more so. They were absolutely awesome this week as we reviewed school rules, and learned center and class routines. We began developing our comprehension skills with the story The Little School Bus. Students learned about the author, illustrator, characters, and setting. They sequenced the story and found rhyming words. Students are also really getting good at singing the Leap Frog alphabet song as they learn all the letters and sounds. In math, we are practicing writing numbers, making AB patterns, learning about coins, and we practiced ordering numbers 0-10. I am very impressed with how quickly the students are learning. Check out some of our writing samples. The students made text-to-self connections as they wrote about how they get to school like the characters in the story. Reminders!!! ~Send in Field Trip Money! ~Parent Orientation - Thurs. Sept 27th ~Book Orders due Thurs. Sept 27th ~Picture Day - Oct. 8th Week 1 Welcome to school! We have had an incredible first week! The students have already learned many new things and made many new friends. We made our school rules, practiced class routines, practiced sharing with friends, and read many back to school/kindergarten books. I think the students' favorite book was "David Goes to School". David gets in so much trouble! I have had so much fun getting to know the students this week. I can already tell this is going to be an incredible year. This group of students is not only intelligent and eager to learn, but they are extremely respectful to one another and to me. They fight over who can help me. :)
Many parents have asked how they can volunteer in the classroom. I have many opportunities for this. At Parent Orientation Night I will send out a form about these opportunities. In the mean time, you are welcome to assist with lunch and recess from 10:45-11:30 each day. Thank you for all the offered help!
