We read lots of fun books this week about the 100th day and about being president. We learned about Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, as well as what characteristics are required to be president. The students made a super cute presidents' day craft that is hanging outside of our classroom. They did a great job in reading this week, finding evidence in the text, paying attention to detail, finding the author's purpose, and stating the main idea. These students are ready for first grade!
They did some terrific writing this week as well. It is so fun to compare their work to the beginning of the year. It is amazing how quickly they pick up and master new skills!
In math, we started our new unit on sorting and classifying. This is very easy for some, and very difficult for others. It uses a very specific part of the brain. Hopefully all students will have it down by the end of this next week. We also practiced writing digital time, matching addition problems, completing vertical math problems, filling in a 100's chart, and naming coins, their amounts, and who's on them.
