This week we continued our study on nutrition and being healthy. We will continue this unit next week as we learn more about staying healthy to help us grow. Students learned about the different food groups, learned to differentiate fruits and vegetables, created healthy meals, and learned where the different food types come from.
Students really enjoyed reading the "If You Give a ____ a ____" series. They compared and contrasted the stories, made up their own endings, created our own version "if You Give a Kid and Candy", and practiced making predictions.
In the pictures below, you will also see that the students got a taste of first grade as they practiced Daily 5. Students were given the choice of which literacy station to rotate too. For some reason when they are allowed to chose the order that they go in, it becomes MUCH more exciting. :)
In math, we wrapped up our intro to first grade unit, reviewed counting coins and telling time, learned about fact families, practiced measuring, worked more with fractions, and took an in-depth look at place value. The students continue to amaze me everyday with the amount they have learned this year!
