This week we began our My Community and Me Unit with an All About Me week. We read stories about self-confidence and all the things you can like about yourself. Students made lots of text-to-text and text-to-self connections. We also worked on finding the problem and solution in the story, as well as identifying the author and illustrator and understanding their roles.
Students really enjoyed sharing their All About Me banner flags. Thank you for working on those at home. They are hanging proudly in the hall outside our classroom.
We took off running with Daily 5 this week. The students are so responsible, they are already making choices on which Daily 5 rotation they would like to go to, like Read to Self, Writing, Listening Center, or Word Work. Next week we will try adding buddy reading, called Read to Someone, and guided reading with the teacher, in the mix.
In math, we began unit two on more and less. Students are doing a great job so far. It can definitely get a little confusing at times. During BUILD, students made ABB patterns, practiced writing numbers and drawing amounts, completed a connect the dots, played number BINGO, matched color words with colors, and ordered number puzzles.
Our writing is out of this world! Wait until you see some of the samples below. They are so excited to write everyday and are having so much fun realizing what they are capable of. I am so impressed!
