This week our focus book was The Jacket I Wear in the Snow. Students enjoyed the rhyming and repetition. They learned about rebus pictures and sentences, and had the opportunity to create their own. They also practiced retelling the story, and answering why questions using evidence from the text. I can't wait to have to opportunity to dive deeper into our comprehension next week when we have more days to focus on our text.
In math we are wrapping up our unit on ways to count to 100. This is a challenging unit in which students need to not only know their numbers to 100, but they need to know multiple ways to count to 100 and recognize what pattern is being used as they fill in the blank. This is a difficult unit for most students. We also practiced finding the missing number, counting coins, recognizing number words, finding different ways to add up to 10, and recognizing color words. Some students were even challenged to complete double digit vertical addition problems. Most students will be expected to do this soon.
