Happy New Year! Welcome back! What a fun couple days we had.
The students were welcomed back into the classroom by our new class pets! We have FISH! The kids are fascinated by them. It is so fun to see.
The students didn't seem to forget a thing over break. In fact, I cannot believe what I am seeing. Their writing is amazing! They learned how to use a web to organize their ideas about winter break and then wrote the first couple pages of their books. So far, they are FABULOUS!
We also studied penguins this week. The kids couldn't have been more excited. I was amazed by what they already knew, but even more by the questions they came up with, and how much they learned. Check out the amazing K,W,L below. After a couple non-fiction texts, they were also able to fill in a Can, Have, Are chart about penguins. I didn't help them at all, and they came up with enough information to fill the whole thing. Unbelievable!!! Oh, and they made the cutest paper-plate penguins ever!!!
