We read some Eric Carle classics like The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Grouchy Lady Bug. We practiced retelling and sequencing, and even made our own Hungry Caterpillar book. We found the author's purpose of The Grouchy Ladybug, and discussed what the lesson was he was trying to teach. Students also practiced expanding their vocabulary and compared and contrasted Polar Bear, Polar Bear and Brown Bear, Brown Bear. They also made many text-to-text and text-to-self connections this week during read to self.
Our current math unit is on positional words like above, below, right, left, etc. The students are doing a great job with this tricky unit. Students also worked on double digit subtraction, tens and ones, how to write a number in expanded form, making geoboard designs, adding over 10, and fractions. Many students are beginning to work on addition problems with carrying and basic multiplication. I love how passionate these students are about learning new skills!
Students Earth Day writing came home this week. Please make sure to check it out. I was blown away by their independence and ability.
