Week two of community helpers was a huge success. Students continued to learn about more community helpers, their tools, and their uniforms. They even got to meet some real community helpers! Officer Zalinski joined our class to show police tools, talk about safety, and to talk about what it is like to be a police officer. The students even were able to try on some gear! Mrs. Gaynor was also able to join our class and taught the students about CPR. She is a community helper because she teaches CPR and teaches other community helpers like lifeguards and paramedics. The students were excited to test out a real CPR dummy and a defibrillator. So cool!
In reading, students made connections to stories about community helpers and thought more about what they would like to be when they grow up. We reviewed title, cover, author, and practiced fiction vs. non-fiction.
In math students are reviewing their numbers, practicing more and less, naming and recognizing coins, learning addition, and practicing color and number words.
The students are learning so much, so fast! I can't believe it! Check out some of our fun pictures and wonderful writing below.
