The children had so much fun this week as we continued our unit on birds, with a focus on chickens and owls this week. They learned about the life-cycle of a chick, the characteristics of a bird, and types of birds. The students even helped fill in a venn-diagram with an incredible amount of information comparing bats and birds. I can't believe what these kids know! Then they filled in their own venn-diagram with a few facts.
In Centers, they learned how blubber and feathers keep penguins warm and dry through a couple fun experiments with gloves, baggies, and ice-water, and vaseline and water. We studies the -ick word family and made an -ick chick, and had lots of fun with technology with a starboard money game, literacy Ipad apps, and abcya.com on the computer.
In math we are studying a challenging unit that introduces the concept of part-part-whole, and also introduces students to the commutative property of addition. Students are also working on addition, subtraction, adding coins, measurement, and time.
Hope you have a fantastic 3-day weekend!
