This week we took a trip to Antarctica. We learned how to get there, what it would be like, and what animals can survive there. We learned a little extra about penguins as we enter our study of birds. We worked extra hard on our Daily 5 rotations. We practiced reading to self, reading to friends, writing, word work, and we listened to a story. This week's word family was -an. Students created an -an fan and were asked to read and write and -an words and were challenged to write -an sentences. We worked especially hard on writing this week. Students were pushed to gain independence and confidence. It was amazing to see the difference a couple days could make. Some of the students really challenged themselves. It was wonderful to see the potential. In math, we finished our challenging unit on numbers to 100 and ways to count to 100. We will continue to review all of these skills. Students also practiced with place value cubes, tally marks, addition sentences, ways to make 10, and counting coins. You may have noticed your child coming home with stickers this week. This is a great way to find out if your child stayed on green for the day.
